Stress, illness, and age can disrupt beneficial microflora in the horse's gastrointestinal tract. To remedy these disruptions, pro and prebiotics may be used. Probiotics are substances which stimulate the growth of microorganisms in the intestinal flora, especially those with beneficial properties.
